Wokrenterstraße

The Wokrenterstraße was built in the early 1980s. During the Second World War, the northern part of the old town was particularly badly destroyed.

The late Gothic gabled house located in the Wokrenterstraße is one of the few remaining gable houses in Rostock. The wooden construction (as a supporting structure for the masonry) resembles a tree in its structure. A mighty trunk supports all other floors from the ground floor.

This created a maximum area on the ground floor. The higher you get in the building, the timber framing looks more and more like a tree. Over the centuries the façades have been adapted several times to suit the taste of the times.

Today, the old harbour district is characterised by the gabled houses of Wokrenterstraße, the warehouses and the new buildings of the 1980s.
