Stone Gate and House Of Estates

The stone gate was built in the style of the Dutch Renaissance (1574-1577) on the foundation walls of the former Gothic southern main gate. The field side is simple, while the splendid city side is adorned with the city’s seal and council coat of arms as well as the inscription “Sit intra te concordia et publica felicitas” (Within your walls reign concord and general welfare).

The representative building of the House of the estates was built around 1890. According to the plans by the grand-ducal master builder Gottlieb Ludwig Möckel it was built in the style of historicism. The brick building was the seat of the parliament of the influential Mecklenburg Estates, which included the nobility and towns. Today it houses the Higher Regional Court.
